8 Springtime Dog Treat Recipes

Springtime is just days away! Wip up some tasty dog treats in the comfort of your own kitchen for all your furry babies to bring in the new season!

No- Bake Ball Treats

Ingredients:

1/2 cup plain yogurt
1 cup natural peanut butter
3 cups rolled oats
Unsweetened Coconut

Directions:

Combine 1/2 cup plain yogurt, 1 cup peanut butter, and 3 cups of oats
Scoop out balls
Chill for 30 minutes
Sprinkle unsweetened coconut over top
Serve

Mint & Parsley Dog Treats

Ingredients:

2.5 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup water
1 T vegetable oil
1/2 cup quick oats
2 T fresh mint, chopped
1/3 cup fresh parsley, chopped
10-12 drops green food coloring

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, combine the flour, oats, oil, water, and herbs. Mix well.
  3. Add food coloring, then knead the dough until color is evenly dispersed.
  4. Roll out the dough on parchment paper, using extra flour as needed so it doesn’t stick.
  5. Roll out about 1/4 to 1/2 thickness.
  6. Use a cookie cutter to cut out shapes.
  7. Place on lined baking sheet and bake for 35 minutes.
  8. Let treats cool before serving.

Strawberry Banana Smoothie Treats

Ingredients:


1/2 cup Strawberries, pureed
1 medium Banana, mashed
1/4 cup Milk
1 1/4 cup Whole Wheat Flour
1/2 teaspoon Vanilla Extract

Directions:


1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
2. In a large bowl mix all ingredients one at a time, kneading well after each addition.
3. Roll out dough on heavily  floured surface (the dough is very sticky) 1/4 inch thick.
4. Cut into shapes with the cutter of your choice.
5. Place cookies 1 inch apart on prepared baking sheet and poke with a fork to prevent air bubbles.
6. Cook for 15 to 20 minutes.
Cool and refrigerate.

*Also can be made frozen*

Muddy Paws- Blueberry Dog Treats

Ingredients:

1 cup water
2 eggs
2 teaspoons honey
2 cups flour
1½ cups blueberries (more or less as needed) Depending on the season you can use fresh blueberries or frozen and thawed.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F.
  2. Whisk together the water, eggs, and honey until thoroughly combined.
  3. Slowly add the liquid mixture to the flour, stirring gently to mix until a dough forms.
  4. Pull off pieces of dough, roll them into a ball between your hands, and place them on a greased baking sheet with room to expand. Place blueberries on top of the cookies in a paw pattern and press lightly to cement them in the dough.
  5. Bake at 325°F for 22-25 minutes, or until lightly browned.
  6. Cool completely before serving.

Pumpkin Apple Doggie Mint Treats

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 cups whole wheat flour, or more, as needed
  • 1 apple, grated
  • 1/2 cup mint leaves, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley leaves, chopped

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat; set aside.
  2. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat pumpkin puree and eggs on medium-high until well combined, about 1-2 minutes. Gradually add 2 1/2 cups flour at low speed, beating just until incorporated. Add an additional 1/4 cup flour at a time just until the dough is no longer sticky. Add apple, mint and parsley, beating just until incorporated.
  3. Working on a lightly floured surface, knead the dough 3-4 times until it comes together. Using a rolling pin, roll the dough to 1/4-inch thickness. Using cookie cutters, cut out desired shapes and place onto the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Place into oven and bake until the edges are golden brown, about 20-25 minutes.*
  5. Let cool completely.

NOTES:

*Baking time will vary depending on the size and thickness of the treats. Serving size will also vary depending on the desired shapes and cookie cutters used.

Pumpkin Sweet Potato Bites

Pumpkin Sweet Potato Bites

Ingredients

  • 1½ cups brown rice flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup mashed sweet potato
  • 1/2 cup 100% pure pumpkin purée
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon organic maple syrup

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350ºF. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together brown rice flour and cinnamon.
  • In a separate bowl, mash sweet potato.
  • Add pumpkin, water, egg, and maple syrup to sweet potato and mix until thoroughly combined.
  • Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and mix together with a spoon until you’re left with a thick batter.
  • With your fingers, pinch off a small amount of the mixture (approx. 3/4 teaspoon) and roll into little balls. Place the balls on the baking sheet, spacing them about an inch apart.
  • After treats are placed on the baking sheet, take a fork and flatten the little balls to around a ¼” thick.
  • Bake at 350ºF for 20 minutes.
  • Flip them over and continue baking another 10 minutes.
  • Transfer to a wire rack to cool.

Notes

*Store in refrigerator for up to a week in an airtight container, or in freezer for up to a month.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup toasted wheat germ
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons canola oil

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350°. Combine flour, wheat germ and cinnamon. Stir in remaining ingredients. On a floured surface, roll dough to 1/4-in. thickness. Cut with a 3-in. bone-shaped cookie cutter.
  • Place 2 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake until bottoms are lightly browned (tops may crack), 30-35 minutes. Cool on a wire rack. Store in an airtight container.

Notes

*Reduced-fat peanut butter is not recommended for this recipe.

Instructions

  • Combine melted coconut oil and brewers yeast together in your blender. Blend for roughly 10 seconds until smooth.
  • Transfer blended mixture into a plastic condiment bottle (trim tip to 1/4 inch opening) and use to fill 2 – small paw print silicone pans.
  • Chill in the refrigerator or freezer until set & solid.
  • Remove from the pan and store in refrigerator or freezer for up to 6 months.

Notes

*1/8 cup = 2 tablespoonsGive up to 1 small paw print Flea Prevention Dog Treat per 10 pounds of body weight daily. For dogs under 10 pounds, give 1 treat every other day.
